“My mom took me over there. I was the next kid I line because I wanted to be a drummer, to sign up for a snare drum,” he recounted. “It was my turn, and they told me, ‘Hey, man, we’re all out of snare drums. Get into that line, kid.’ They moved me into the next line and they gave me an alto saxophone.”
In working painstakingly on every detail, Muraida — also an illustrator, graphic designer and painter — respects the spirit of the traditional Mexican folk art. To move ahead, she believes, we must remember and honor our past.
