Buy Your Commemorative Medal in Celebration of the 75th Anniversary of Guadalupe Theater!
Built in 1942 by local business tycoon Gaetano Lucchese, Guadalupe Theater brought the excitement of the Golden Age of Mexican cinema to the silver screen for West side audiences to enjoy.
The iconic art deco movie house opened with the U.S. premiere of the Mexican film, Aguila Roja, a short subject featuring famed comic of the time, Cantinflas, and a Mexican cartoon. In its glory, Guadalupe Theater was a hub for cinema action and even dazzled moviegoers with vaudeville acts. Generations of people delighted in Hollywood screen sirens, followed the world through the newsreels, and grew up coming to the theatre week after week.
Today, the 400 seat Guadalupe Theater finds permanence within the Guadalupe Cultural Arts Center, and is a passionately protected and beloved community landmark. Each year the Guadalupe Theater hosts an array of theatre arts and dance performances, concerts, and film screenings. It is home to CineFestival, the nation’s longest running Latino film festival, the ever popular Holiday Saxophones, and Viva Mi Cultura which reaches over a thousand school children annually. The theater also welcomes community members and organizations who hold a variety of social gatherings, fundraisers, and cultural events throughout the year.
Community support is critical to the Theatre’s continued vitality. The commemorative medal helps make the theater accessible and affordable for everyone while preserving and promoting the Latino, Chicano and Native American arts and culture within our comunidad.
