Dance
The Dance Program strives to preserve, present and promote our cultural heritage through traditional and contemporary styles of music and dance. It strives to create an environment that embraces our history and culture, which nurtures artists, choreographers, teachers and dancers and provides training in many dance forms to achieve high technical standards and professionalism. Through the Guadalupe Dance Academy, the Dance Program offers beginning, intermediate and advanced level classes in Mexican Folklorico and Spanish Flamenco. Public performances by Academy members promote highly trained and dedicated dancers for the Guadalupe Dance Company.
Founded in 1991, the Guadalupe Dance Academy is one of the leading professional Folklórico and Flamenco dance groups in the nation. The unparalleled skill, choreography and costuming of its corps of dancers, under the direction of Belinda Menchaca, make for exceptional artistry that is both culturally enlightening and technically stunning in its execution. With the guidance of instructors from Mexico, the Company performs traditional Mexican Folklórico and Aztec dances, Flamenco and Spanish classical dance, contemporary theatrical pieces, and dances of the Texas-Mexico border from indigenous times to the 20th century.
