“Viva Mi Cultura” Lecture Demonstrations
The Guadalupe Cultural Arts Center celebrates Hispanic heritage and cultural traditions with “Viva Mi Cultura," an ongoing series of interactive lecture demonstrations featuring the Guadalupe Dance Company performing a variety of traditional Mexican Folklórico and Spanish Flamenco Dances in the historic Guadalupe Theater. “Viva Mi Cultura” gives professional Folklórico dancers an opportunity to interact with local school audiences to help emphasize the cultural value of traditional dance. Audience members are invited to participate in a question and answer session, and join the dancers on stage.

“Viva Mi Cultura” fosters pride, cultural awareness, and a deeper understanding of dance and music. School groups must reserve seats as early as possible, due to the many schools and groups participating. Admission is $2 per student and adult.

Call Belinda Menchaca at (210) 271-3151, extension 25, or send an email to belindam@guadalupeculturalarts.org, to reserve your date.

Dance Program Outreach
Members of the Guadalupe Dance Company are currently working with Southwest Independent School District and San Antonio Independent School District in after school programs that offer free Mexican Folklórico Dance classes as part of a 21st century grant awarded between these organizations and the Guadalupe Cultural Arts Center. The program gives young people the opportunity to take classes with professional performers and teachers and be exposed to art and culture free of charge. The classes are a wonderful way for the Guadalupe Cultural Arts Center to touch young people’s lives outside of the center. The classes serve as a seed that will hopefully grow into a deep appreciation, understanding and pride in the community and possibly some future artists. It is through programs like this and Viva Mi Cultura that the Guadalupe Dance Company is committed to educating future artists and audiences. The programs at these schools are no substitute for formal dance education in a dance studio, however they are a great introduction and opportunity to new students as well as those who cannot attend regular classes in a studio.
