Doña Rositas Jalapeño Kitchen
The Guadalupe Cultural Arts Center presents Doña Rosita’s Jalapeño Kitchen, a one-woman show written by Rodrigo Duarte-Clark and performed by Ruby Nelda Perez, on Friday, Saturday andSunday, April 10, 11 & 12, 2015 at the Guadalupe Theater. Deliciously comic and peppered with the poignancy of cultural pride, Doña Rosita invites the audience to the last supper in the barrio of Salsipuedes (get-out-if-you-can) while she struggles with selling her restaurant of 23 years to make way for a new shopping mall. Generous servings of one flavorful character after another will leave your spirit nourished yet hungry for more of Doña Rosita.
Nationally acclaimed actor, soloist and comedienne extraordinaire, Ruby Nelda Perez enchants and delights audience with rich performances. Through collaborations with Latino writers, Ruby brings to life an array of full-bodied, textured characters. Her skillful use of language weaves English, Spanish and Spanglish into colorful performances as she moves seamlessly from hilarity to tender vulnerability. Ruby has performed throughout the USA and Latin America and received numerous awards and critical acclaim for her work. The National Endowment for the Arts designated her an American Masterpiece artist in 2008.
