All
Guadalupe Dance Academy classes begin with an awareness of body
movement, skirt
work (for girls) and footwork or “zapateado”. Students
are taught the cultural significance of the dances, its origins, traditional
costumes and choreography. Students engage in activities that maintain
coordination, balance and weight shifting which is essential to accomplishing
footwork. They continue learning sequences and combinations in preparation
as their
technique advances. Dancers continue to learn traditional dances
with more
complex choreography as they progress and perform, after one
of training with
the Academy, in the annual recital showcasing their training.
In addition to
learning the dance technique and performance skills, students
are also developing
the skills for critical thinking, creativity, problem
solving, evaluation and
self-assessment through observation. |
