Classifying with Large Format Collages
2nd Grade Dual Language teacher, Irma Tajonar, teamed up with artist, Jacinto Guevara, to engage her students through a multidisciplinary unit that incorporated art into many mini-lessons. Centered around a theme of the local community and environment, students were taught basic art and drawing techniques as they learned about natural resources, communities, urban development, producers and consumers, and life cycles. In their final culminating project, students took their artwork from 6 mini lessons and compiled a collaged environmental mural that classified natural and man-made resources.
