Modeled after its parent workshop, the very first Macondo Young Writers’ Workshop seeks socially engaged youth writers working to advance creativity, foster generosity, and serve community. Currently, we are accepting applications from high school juniors and seniors (for 2016-2017 school year) who view their work and talents as part of a larger task of community-building and non-violent social change. For the 2016 workshops, Macondistas, Joe Jimenez author of The Possibilities of Mud, will lead a multi-genre workshop for young writers and Jimmy Mendiola, San Antonio filmmaker, will lead a screenwriting workshop for youth.

Program Highlights

• Macondo young writers will have the opportunity to explore different genres and styles of writing, share their work with peers
• Young writers’ workshop will be lead by professional writer and educator, Joe Jimenez
• Because the workshop is being held concurrently with the Macondo Writers’ Workshop, young writers will have an opportunity to engage with Macondistas—professional writers from all over the country

Deadline to submit an application for participation in the 2016 summer workshop is MAY 2nd at midnight.
