LA VIDA ESTRAMBÓLICA: A story, la música, la pintura and abuelita's mantel
Thursday, July 22
Guadalupe Gallery, 723 S. Brazos St., 78207
EMBROIDERY WORKSHOP
2 PM | FREE
The exhibition, essentials, currently on view in the Guadalupe Gallery, features the work of artist Terry Ybáñez. Ybáñez's work deals with themes of familia, love, and loss. This workshop is about reclaiming the stories and the visual arts that our grandmothers left for us - a pillowcase, a baby blanket, a tablecloth, etc. Learn simple stitches to create an embroidered handkerchief with a golondrina and a dicho or the word - amor.
READING AND MÚSICA
7 PM | FREE
Join us as Barbara Renaud González reads from her latest book, Golondrina, why did you leave me? González will be accompanied by Tejano Conjunto Hall of Famer, Eva Ybarra, who will play her original composition, Vals Estrambólico, which tells the story of Texas. Artist Terry Ybáñez was heavily influenced by González's book, as evidenced by her work on view in the essentials exhibition. Come hear González's words and see Ybáñez's art work together for one night only.
