MEET THE ARTISTS
Thursday, April 1, 7 PM, Free
Guadalupe Gallery, 723 S. Brazos St.

Meet the artists of the Más Rudas Collective. Hear what inspires Guest artist curator Cruz Ortiz, and artists Ruth Buentello, Sarah Castillo, Kristin Gamez, Mari Hernandez, and Cristina Ordoñez.

RUTH BUENTELLO was introduced to the arts at a young age through San Anto Cultural Arts, a non-profit arts organization located in the Westside of San Antonio. She's worked in the community murals and public art field in San Antonio and Chicago. She studied at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago where she earned a BFA with an emphasis in painting. Her work has been at UTSA, Southwest School of Art and Craft, and on the walls of the Westside.

SARAH CASTILLO focuses her work around questions pertaining to relationships, the experiences within those relationships, and the outcomes of those experiences. She is presently developing portraits of her matriarchal lineage and social commentary through the use of text and imagery.

KRISTIN GAMEZ is a Chicana, born and raised in San Antonio's Southeast side. She grew up on raspas and Chinese candy (RIP), which she misses very much. However, she now understands that these treats are the cause of her tooth decay. She has many memories growing up in San Antonio’s Southeast side, which inspire her work and motivate her commitment to her community.

MARI HERNANDEZ is a photographer born and raised in San Antonio, Texas. Using photography as her medium to document society and culture, she is consistently inspired by her home, and views photography as a tool to educate and empower.

CRISTINA ORDOÑEZ grew up in the Westside of San Antonio. Her work has been on display at the San Antonio Library and the first-ever Chicano art show in Amherst College. She also worked with Cassiano Homes families on a photo project where students documented their lives. It was on display at University of the Incarnate Word. She works at San Anto Cultural Arts.

CRUZ ORTIZ (Guest Artist Curator) is originally from Houston, Texas, but lives in San Antonio, Texas. He has a BFA with a concentration in printmaking. His work has been shown all over the United States and abroad, including the Los Angeles County Museum of Art; e v+ a in Limerick, Ireland; San Juan Triennial in San Juan, Puerto Rico; and The Louvre in Paris, France.
