Flamenco Workshop: Miguel Vargas

Flamenco Workshop: Miguel Vargas

Miguel Vargas of Sevilla, Spain will make a stop in San Antonio on his fall US tour to give a Flamenco Dance Workshop at the Guadalupe Cultural Arts Center.

Don’t miss the opportunity to study with the renowned bailaor Miguel Vargas. With his knowledge of cante, inspiring voice and enthusiasm for teaching this will be a highly beneficial workshop for all levels. Together with cantaora Esperanza Fernández, Miguel directs the Center of Art and Flamenco of Seville, an institution dedicated to the education and diffusion of the flamenco art.

Miguel has maintained his relationship with San Antonio and South Texas artists for the past four years imparting his knowledge and passion for the art of Flamenco. Miguel is a gifted teacher with the ability to break down every nuance of each movement and sentiment of the cante. He truly immerses his students in every aspect of Flamenco and tailors his technique and choreography for his students here in San Antonio. Last spring Miguel added a structure class to help students understand and practice entering with the music and different vocalizations of the letra, guiding dancers to learn how to interpret the singer and the cante. He also added a beginning class for those who had never taken a class before.

Because of the overwhelming response to the structure class, Miguel will once again offer it for the fall workshop as well as the beginner class. For the more experienced dancers, the Intermediate level will focus on Farruca and the Advanced level will work Bambera. According to Miguel “these palos have a lot of matices and majesty which strengthen full body expression.” The workshop will focus on salidas, remates, marcajes and how to execute them properly with the cante.
