La Pastorela Folklorica with the Guadalupe Dance Academy
La Pastorela Folklorica
Friday & Saturday December 14 & 15 | 6:30PM
Guadalupe Theater | 1301 Guadalupe St.
The Guadalupe Cultural Arts Center presents “La Pastorela Folklorica” at the Guadalupe Theater on Friday & Saturday, December 14 & 15 at 6:30 p.m. This annual holiday celebration is a fun representation of the traditional shepherd’s play with a folklorico and flamenco flair. This version, written by Hiedi Cabral, highlights the Guadalupe Dance Academy performing beautiful traditional Mexican Folklorico and Flamenco music and dance throughout the evening. Guadalupe Dance Company members play the traditional characters of Mary, Joseph, Lucifer and the Archangel while the Academy’s youngest performers play the parts of townspeople and shepherds. Under the influence of Lucifer, more experienced Academy performers do their best to distract the shepherds from their mission of welcoming the newborn king. Sure to be a heartwarming and entertaining performance, audiences will likely make it an annual tradition.
The program features the choreography of Academy Instructors Belinda Menchaca, Jeannette Chavez, Rodrigo Gonzalez, Crystal Zuniga and Connie Espinoza and offers students the opportunity to fundraise for new costumes for the 2019 performance season.
