La Reina del Acordeón: Eva Ybarra’s Life on Stage
The Guadalupe Cultural Arts Center presents La Reina del Acordeón: Eva Ybarra’s Life on
Stage, on Friday and Saturday, March 20 and 21 at 8 pm and Sunday, March 22 at 3 pm at the
historic Guadalupe Theater. This theatrical production highlights the Conjunto music of
Eva Ybarra and her powerful personal story.
La Reina del Acordeón is a story filled with passion, perseverance, and artistry – the
qualities that make Eva Ybarra one of the most original and respected musicians in
Conjunto and accordion music. Eva is a true legend who’s never shied away from a
challenge – as a child prodigy she taught herself to play the accordion and grew to gain
recognition despite being one of only a handful of female artists in an industry
overwhelming dominated by men.
From South Texas dance halls and cantinas, to the stages of New York City and Puerto Rico,
Eva continues to perform and has vowed to share her music and story with audiences until
she can no longer do so. Incorporating live music, dramatizations, and film/multimedia
elements, La Reina del Acordeón: Eva Ybarra’s Life on Stage will feature regional artists,
musicians and Eva Ybarra herself.
