Literature Program
The
Literature Program brings Chicano/Latino and other writers
from
across the hemisphere to present their works to the San
Antonio community. A primary aim is to increase the audience
for Chicano literature, and to generally support the writers.
Each
year the Literature Program presents the major literary event
in the Southwest: San Antonio Inter-American Bookfair& Literary
Festival. It is the single most important public
venue in the U.S. for new Latino/a writers.
In
an effort to increase public awareness on Latina writers
and performers,
the Guadalupe Cultural Arts Center and St. Mary's
University in San Antonio, annually present Latina Letters:
A Conference on Latina Literature and Identity. The
conference presents workshops, panels, and readings featuring
some of the most noted Latina writers and performers. In
conjunction with the National Latino Children's Initiative,
the
Guadalupe Cultural Arts Center Literature Program celebrates
the annual Día de los Niños/Día de los
Libros as a nation-wide celebration of Latino children's
literature. Through this
celebration, the Guadalupe distributes free books to children
who attend daytime readings by authors and storytellers at the
Guadalupe Theater. |
