Macondo Welcome Dinner
Wednesday, July 13, 2016
Join us for the 2016 Macondo Writers’ Workshop Welcome Dinner as we enter our 26th year of serving writers who view their work and talents as part of a larger task of community-building and non-violent social change. This year, we welcome 45 writers from all over the country, as well as 20 high school-aged young writers to engage in a dialogue of art and activism. We are honored to have such renowned writers, Alex Espinoza, Allison Hedge Coke, Joe Jimenez, Tim Z. Hernandez, and Liza Garza share their gifts as we establish the new season and the next 25 years of Macondo. Proud to call her our own, San Antonio native, Writer-in-Residence/Literary Arts Director at the Guadalupe, the 2016 Texas Poet Laureate, Laurie Ann Guerrero, will kick off the events with the keynote address at the dinner, followed by a special performance by Emmy-nominated 2016 Macondista, Liza Garza.
All proceeds to the 2016 Macondo Writers’ Workshop Welcome Dinner will go toward strengthening our youth programs in the Literary Arts department. Your generosity will help raise the voices in our community.
