Monica Palacios

Monica PalaciosMonica Palacios is a Writer/Performer International Hip Chick. Monica is the creator of solo shows, plays, screenplays, short stories featuring dignified Latina/o LGBTQ characters. A highly anthologized writer with three new publications:  Mujeres de Maiz Zine Madre, Mother Spring 2015; Out Latina Lesbians Sinister Wisdom Journal 2015; and forthcoming Jota Anthology by Korima Press 2016. She was awarded a prestigious Postdoctoral Rockefeller Fellowship from the Chicano Studies Institute at UC Santa Barbara. Monica was nominated for GO Magazine’s annual “100 Women We Love” 2015. She was selected as one of the 41 LGBTQ Latina/o 2014 Role Models by, and nominated as 2014 LGBT Pride Month Local Heroes, KCET. Monica was selected as “Latinas of Influence 2013” by In 2012 Palacios was recognized by Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa for her 30 years as a groundbreaking Chicana lesbian artist. Palacios has taught at UCLA, UCSB, UCR, Loyola Marymount University, Claremont College, Pomona College, California State Los Angeles and American Academy of Dramatic Arts. Monica continues to tour with her solo show, “Queer Latina Love & Revolution” and is promoting her new play, “I Kissed Chavela Vargas.”
