Summer Circus Camp
Come join our circus!!! Are you ready to perform under our Carpa?
One of San Antonio’s Cultural Legacies were the “Carpas” comprised of talented Mexican American families who created a number of successful traveling circus tent shows that toured the U.S. Southwest and called San Antonio their home during the first half of the 20th century.
We are accepting children from 8-12 years old to join us for an action packed 5 weeks of balancing, juggling, performing, and lots of clowning around. Additionally, children will enjoy developing their inner clown, learn basic acrobatics, and learn a lot about preparing and performing in our Carpa. Participating kids will be performing in the historical Guadalupe Theater on July, 18th 2014.
Participants may join for all 5 weeks or choose to participate in individual week arrangements. Friends and Family are invited!
What to Expect?
Mornings will be dedicated to physical warmups, acrobatic exercises, theater games, introductions to juggling, gymnastics, and other circus skills.
Midday, kids will have the opportunity to see some films from some of our Maestros. So they will discover what more about, Don Fito, Los Carperos, The Carpa Garcia, and some universal favorites of the silent movie era.
Afternoon will give us the opportunity to center our thoughts on making others laugh by discovering our inner clown. We will study the fundamentals of clowning and physical comedy. We’ll also learn how to trip, walk, and throw a pie for a good laugh. You’ll even find out what a walk-around is and how to prepare a gag like “a coat steal” or other circus routines!
Special surprises include acrobatics classes and puppet making.

“The sun stands for energy and youth, which is what I thought the circus should be about.”
“The circus had been unlike anything I could ever imagine and I could not walk away. I wanted to be a part of the magic, create it and wield it with such skill that it looked effortless. I wanted to fly.”
