Roosters centers on the Morales
family. After 7 years in jail for manslaughter,
Gallo returns to the roost, disrupting an already stressful
home situation. His main conflict is with his
contemplative and questioning son. Hector, who has
inherited a prize fighting rooster from his grandfather,
wishes to sell the bird to help his family but Gallo
wants to get into the cock pit. Juana, the harried
mother is just trying to keep her family happy and
Chata, Gallo's overtly sexual sister has stopped in
for a visit. Meanwhile, in a world or her own
making, Angela has learned to “blot out unpleasant
reality by hiding under the porch”. |

Last
presented by the GCAC in 1988, this classic of Chicano
drama will be returning to the Guadalupe Theater
after 20 years. The 24 th Street Players have staged
this iconic drama to elevate what has made this play
timeless, showing the us that the conflicts in Roosters
are ones that are still relevant, if not urgent,
to a 21 st century audience.
