Visual
Arts Program
The
oldest program at the Guadalupe Cultural Arts Center is the
Visual Arts Program, having its origins as an independent organization.
Through its exhibits and programming, the Visual Arts Program
strives to conserve and promote the Chicano/Latino/Indigenous
experience and history.
The
Visual Arts Program provides classes in drawing, painting, silk
screening, and ceramics to an average enrollment of 360 students.
Every year features exhibits by local, national and international
artists. One of its special annual events is Hecho a Mano/
Made by Hand, a fine arts and crafts bazaar held in the Guadalupe
Theater, where artisans and craftsmen display their wares for
public purchase. While most of its classes and programming are
aimed at the general pubic, the Visual Arts Program also presents
workshops for professional artists in sculpture, printmaking,
and computer art. In addition, the program provides studio space
and technical assistance for artists and conducts regular roundtable
discussions where artists exchange ideas and information. The
Guadalupe Cultural Arts Center Visual Arts Annex is currently
relocating closer to home. A recent purchase will house the Visual
Arts Studio adjacent to the Guadalupe Theater. During this transitional
phase, the studio has been tentatively relocated to 1300 Guadalupe
St., next to the administrative offices. |
