October 7, 2008 – The Hohner company and Flaco Jimenez are proud to announce the Flaco Jimenez Signature Series Accordion, celebrating the accomplishments and legacy of both Flaco Jimenez and Hohner. Hohner has manufactured and distributed musical instruments since 1857, making it one of the world’s oldest musical instrument makers. The five-time Grammy Award winner’s career spans over four decades, and his famous accordion is featured in more than 100 albums.
Flaco is described by People Magazine as “a heavy weight in Texas-Mex (or Tejano) music.” He won his first Grammy Award in 1986 for the re-make of his father’s song, “Ay Te Dejo En San Antonio”. He then teamed up with his buddies Freddy Fender, Doug Sahm and with Augie Meyers to form the Tex-Mex super group The Texas Tornadoes, thereby winning another Grammy award for their debut release in 1990. In 1996, he won yet another Grammy award for the “Best Mexican-American Performance”, for his Artists Records solo performance entitled “Flaco Jimenez”.
Flaco was presented a Double Platinum Album Award by Virgin Records for his participation on the Rolling Stones’ Voodoo Lounge album which sold in excess of two million copies, just like the ever famous "Streets of Bakersfield" with his good friends, Buck Owens and Dwight Yoakam. He also recorded with the legendary Bob Dylan and Ry Cooder. He received the "Lifetime Achievement Award" from Billboard Latin Magazine and Best video at the Tejano Music Awards.
“Hohner is extremely proud to celebrate the artistry of Flaco Jimenez, one of America’s musical treasures,” said Gilbert Reyes, Accordion Product Manager for Hohner, Inc. “Throughout his iconic career, Flaco Jimenez has maintained a special relationship with the Hohner company and has showcased our accordions in his music. At this time, Hohner is honoring that association by offering our limited edition Flaco Jimenez signature series accordion to the public. This is truly a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for Flaco Jimenez fans and we hope that those who are able to own these items will treasure them as a reflection of his musical genius.” |
